This is how it starts: a cracking open
to reveal the person you’re meant to
become. I remind you not to worry
or worry but only about tomorrow
and let the day after take care
of itself. I remind you that I will
take care of you even if you don’t
ask me to. I remind you that last time
we spoke you thought things were
going to get worse and they didn’t.
You don’t always believe me. I’m not
always right. But sometimes we let
the flour and sugar dissolve on our
tongues, remember that love shared
is love multiplied (how could we forget?).
These are only words on a piece of paper
–only words with so much left unwritten.
We fish it out anyway. Feel its crisp promise
between our fingers. Watch it unfold.
